Pickup Queue
On a busy morning the counter knows who is waiting and what kind of unit they want — but the person standing out on the lot is the one who knows which unit is actually next. The Pickup Queue module splits the check-out into exactly those two halves so both sides keep moving.
It's off by default: an admin switches it on under Settings → Modules, and a Pickup Queue entry appears in the sidebar.
How it flows
1. Add to the queue (the counter). Pick or quick-add the customer, add anyone else in their party, choose the unit type they want, set the due-back date (your one-tap due-date buttons work here too), and add notes ("wants the red one if possible"). If the customer has a confirmed reservation for that type covering today, you can link it so the pickup counts against the booking. The entry joins a first-come-first-served board showing who's waiting, for what, and since when.
2. Claim a unit (the lot). Whoever is standing at the units opens the entry and claims the actual unit. OnLot suggests the next unit in the rotation — the one that's sat on the lot longest since its last return, so the fleet wears evenly — or you can search for a specific unit by number, plate, color, or VIN and tap it instead. (Admins can turn the suggestion off under Settings → General if your lot always picks manually.) Claiming puts the unit on Hold with a "queued for" note, so nobody at the counter double-hands it while the party walks out. Unclaiming or cancelling releases the hold.
3. Finish the check-out (either side). From the counter or from a phone on the lot, Finish check-out runs the exact same verification as a direct check-out — do-not-rent checks for the whole party, required contact info, ID and insurance requirements, waiver signatures for every rider, condition photos if you require them — and creates the rental: party attached, linked reservation fulfilled, everything in the audit trail.
Who can do what
Anyone on staff can see the queue board. Adding, claiming, finishing, and cancelling follow the rentals permission — so shop-only staff can watch the morning rush without being able to hand out units.
Staying in the loop
Queue activity can ring the notification bell: teammates with the rentals permission hear when a party joins the queue and when a unit is claimed. Like every notification, each person can switch it off in their profile.
Switching the module off later hides the page and workflow without touching any recorded history.
